If you’ve spent any time breeding Pals or trying to boost your base’s morale in Palworld, you’ve probably already heard that cake is one of the most valuable consumables you can make. I remember spending my first 20 hours of playtime ignoring cooking entirely, until I tried to breed an Anubis and realized I didn’t have a single cake in my storage. Learning how to make a cake in Palworld doesn’t just make breeding easier—it also lets you skip hours of grinding for wild Pal captures if you prefer to raise your own perfect partners. This guide breaks down every step of the process, from gathering resources to mass producing cakes for your entire breeding operation.
What You Need Before You Learn How to Make a Cake in Palworld
You can’t just throw random ingredients together and get a cake, sadly. There are a few hard requirements you have to hit first before you can even think about baking one. I missed the level requirement on my first playthrough, so I wasted an hour gathering ingredients before I realized I couldn’t even unlock the recipe yet.
First, you’ll need to reach player level 17 and spend 2 technology points to unlock the Kitchen crafting station. The Kitchen itself requires 20 wood, 15 stone, 10 ingot, and 3 flame organ to build, so make sure you have those resources stocked up first. You’ll also need a Pal with the Kindling work suitability assigned to the Kitchen to actually cook the cake—your regular mining or farming Pals won’t be able to operate it.
Once you have the Kitchen set up, you’ll need the following ingredients for one single cake:
- 5 Flour: Made by processing wheat at a Mill
- 8 Red Berries: Foraged from berry bushes across most starting areas, or farmed with berry plantations
- 7 Milk: Dropped by Mozzarina Pals, or harvested from Mozzarina assigned to a ranch
- 2 Egg: Dropped by Chikipi, or harvested from Chikipi assigned to a ranch
- 1 Honey: Dropped by Beegarde, or harvested from Beegarde assigned to a ranch
That might seem like a lot of ingredients for one item, but the payoff is more than worth it. Each cake restores 500 hunger for any Pal that eats it, and it’s the only item that lets you speed up the breeding process at a Breeding Farm.
Fastest Ways to Gather Cake Ingredients Without Grinding
You don’t have to run across the map for hours hunting Mozzarina and Beegarde if you don’t want to. I’ve tested a bunch of different farming methods, and the most low-effort way to get all your ingredients is to set up a dedicated farming section of your base early on. That way, your Pals do all the work for you while you focus on exploring or capturing higher tier Pals.
For flour, first unlock the Wheat Seed recipe at level 15, then plant a 10-plot wheat plantation. Assign a Pal with level 2 or higher Farming suitability to tend the plots, and you’ll get more wheat than you know what to do with every 10 minutes of real time. Process that wheat at a Mill (unlocked at level 15 as well) to get flour at a 1:1 ratio, no extra work needed.
For the rest of the ingredients, set up a single Ranch and assign one Chikipi, one Mozzarina, and one Beegarde to it. The Ranch will passively generate eggs, milk, and honey every few minutes as long as the assigned Pals are well fed. You can get all three Pals within the first 10 hours of play if you explore the starting grasslands and the small forest areas north of the initial spawn point, so you don’t have to go into high-level areas to get them. Red berries are even easier—just set up a 5-plot berry plantation and you’ll have hundreds of berries in no time.
But if you’re in a rush to make a few cakes for an immediate breeding project, you can find wild Beegarde hives in the forest areas that drop 2-3 honey each when destroyed, and wild Mozzarina drop 1-2 milk each when captured or defeated. I don’t recommend this method for long term use though, since it’s way more time consuming than passive ranch farming.
How to Mass Produce Cakes for Large Breeding Operations
Once you start breeding for perfect IV Pals or rare variants like shiny Pals, you’ll need dozens of cakes to keep your Breeding Farms running 24/7. I currently run 4 Breeding Farms on my main base, and I go through about 30 cakes every hour of playtime. If you set up your production line correctly, you can make more cakes than you need without ever having to manually gather ingredients again.
First, scale up your farms and ranches to match your demand. For 4 Breeding Farms, I have 20 wheat plots, 10 berry plots, 2 Ranches each with Chikipi, Mozzarina, and Beegarde, and 2 Mills running nonstop to process wheat into flour. Assign Pals with high work suitability scores to each station to cut down on processing time— a Pal with level 3 Kindling will cook a cake 3x faster than a Pal with level 1 Kindling, for example.
You should also build at least 2 Kitchens if you’re making more than 10 cakes a day. Multiple Kitchens let you cook multiple cakes at the same time, so you don’t end up with a backlog of ingredients sitting in your storage waiting to be cooked. I also recommend building a chest right next to your Kitchens and setting it to only store cake ingredients, so your Pals don’t have to run across the base to grab items they need for cooking.
One mistake I see a lot of new players make is ignoring Pal hunger for their farming and cooking Pals. If your Kindling Pal gets hungry and stops working, your entire cake production line shuts down. Keep a stack of basic food like red berries or baked potatoes near the Kitchen so your working Pals can eat quickly and get back to work without you having to intervene.
Common Cake Baking Mistakes to Avoid in Palworld
Even if you have all the right ingredients and stations, there are a few small mistakes that can stop you from making cakes successfully. I’ve made all of these mistakes at least once, so I’m sharing them to save you the frustration of wasting resources.
First, don’t try to make cake in the basic Cooking Pot. A lot of new players assume all food is made in the Cooking Pot, but cake is a higher tier recipe that only works in the Kitchen. I wasted 2 sets of ingredients early on trying to cook cake in the Cooking Pot before I realized I needed to unlock the Kitchen first. Double check you’re using the right crafting station before you add your ingredients to avoid this.
Second, don’t forget to assign a Pal with Kindling to the Kitchen. The Kitchen won’t run on its own, even if you have all the ingredients loaded in. You can check if a Pal has Kindling suitability by looking at the work stat icons on their Palbox page. Even a level 1 Kindling Pal like Foxparks will work if you don’t have a higher tier one yet.
Third, don’t use all your milk or honey for cakes if you’re still working on other crafting projects. Milk is also used to make hot milk for cold area exploration, and honey is used to make other healing items. Keep at least 10 units of each ingredient in reserve for other uses before you start baking large batches of cake.
One last thing: don’t leave cakes sitting out in open chests if you have wild Pals raiding your base. Raiding Pals will eat any food they can find, including your hard-earned cakes. Store your cakes in a locked chest or a chest inside your base building to keep them safe from thieves.
Cake might seem like a fancy, unnecessary item when you’re first starting out in Palworld, but it’s easily one of the most useful items you can craft once you start expanding your base and breeding Pals. Whether you just need one cake to breed your first rare Pal or you’re setting up a mass production line for a full breeding operation, the steps we covered here will help you get the job done without wasting time or resources. Now that you know how to make a cake in Palworld, you can start working on building that perfect team of Pals you’ve been planning for.
