If you’ve ever tried to craft a high-tier Pal Sphere, upgrade your workbench, or build reinforced storage chests in Palworld, you’ve probably hit a frustrating wall when you run out of bones. That’s when most players start asking what drops bones in Palworld, and how they can farm enough of this surprisingly high-demand resource without wasting hours of playtime. I’ve put over 90 hours into the game across multiple playthroughs, tested every possible bone source, and put together this guide to help you cut your farming time by more than half, no matter what level you’re at.
What Drops Bones in Palworld: Full List of Pals and Sources
The vast majority of bones you’ll collect come from defeating specific Pals, though you can occasionally find small amounts in random loot crates or abandoned ruin chests. Loot drops are far too inconsistent for bulk farming, so focusing on Pals with high bone drop rates is always the best strategy. Below is a curated list of the most reliable bone-dropping Pals, sorted by efficiency for farming:
- Vixy: Drops 1-2 bones 45% of the time, found all over the starting Grassland Biome near small cliff edges and open fields. They’re level 1-5, so even brand new players with basic weapons can take them out in one or two hits.
- Bonehound: Drops 2-3 bones 55% of the time, spawns in the Desert Biome near abandoned ruins and dried riverbeds. They travel in packs of 3-4, so you can farm 6-12 bones from a single group if you use area-of-effect attacks.
- Wolpang: Drops 2-3 bones 60% of the time, spawns in the northern Snow Biome near mountain ridges and frozen lakes. They’re level 20-25, so fire-type Pals work best to take them down quickly, and they rarely have backup from other aggressive Pals.
- Felbat: Drops 3-4 bones 75% of the time, spawns in the central Volcanic Biome cave systems only at night. They’re level 35-40, but have the highest consistent bone drop rate in the game, making them the best option for late-game bulk farming.
- Mourningdew & Reptyro: Drop 1-2 bones 30% of the time, found in swamp and cave areas across the map. They’re far less efficient than the options above, so only farm them if you happen to run into them while completing other tasks.
You don’t have to capture these Pals to get bone drops, either. Defeating them is enough to trigger the drop roll, so you can skip the capture process entirely if you’re only focused on gathering resources. That said, capturing a few every now and then gives you a small bonus resource drop, so it’s worth doing if you have extra Pal Spheres on hand.
Best Locations for Bulk Bone Farming
Not all spawn spots are created equal, and choosing the right location can double the number of bones you collect per hour. For new players under level 15, the western cliff area of the starting Grassland Biome, just west of the first fast travel point, is unbeatable. There are 8-10 Vixy spawns within a 2-minute walk, and they respawn every 5 in-game minutes, so you can easily collect 20-30 bones an hour without any risk of dying to higher level Pals.
For players level 20 to 35, head to the eastern ridge of the Snow Biome, near the border with the Grassland Biome. Wolpang spawns in groups of 2-3 along the ridge, and there are no aggressive high-level Pals in the immediate area to interrupt your farming runs. You can collect 40-50 bones an hour here, and you’ll also pick up extra ice organs that you can use for cold resistance gear or furnace fuel.
If you’re level 40 or higher, the large cave system in the southern part of the Volcanic Biome is the best bone farming spot in the game. Felbat spawns every 10 to 15 steps inside the cave, and they rarely travel in groups larger than 2, so you don’t have to worry about being overwhelmed. Make sure you bring fire or holy type Pals to fight Felbats, as their dark type attacks deal extra damage to neutral type Pals.
Pro Tips to Maximize Your Bone Yield
There are a few small changes you can make to your farming routine that will drastically increase how many bones you collect per run, with almost no extra effort. First, equip the Lucky passive skill on your main combat Pal - this skill increases all item drop rates by 25%, so you’ll get extra bones from nearly every kill, plus more bonus drops like leather or meat that you can use for other crafts.
Build a small outpost near your chosen farming spot with a bed, storage chest, and small food source. This way you don’t have to travel all the way back to your main base every time your inventory fills up, and you can rest to skip bad weather if needed. Don’t farm bone-dropping Pals during in-game rain - most of them have 50% lower spawn rates during wet weather, so you’ll waste far more time running around looking for spawns than you will actually fighting Pals.
Use area-of-effect attacks whenever possible, especially when fighting pack spawns like Bonehounds. A single Flame Thrower attack from a level 20 Foxparks can take out an entire pack of Bonehounds in 2 seconds, so you can collect 6-9 bones in less time than it takes to fight a single Pal one on one. If you don’t have a Pal with AoE attacks, a crossbow with explosive arrows works just as well for taking out groups quickly.
Common Mistakes to Avoid When Farming Bones
A lot of players waste hours farming the wrong Pals or using bad strategies without even realizing it. One of the most common mistakes new players make is trying to farm every dark type Pal they see, assuming all of them drop bones. That’s not true - most dark type Pals only drop dark organs or leather, so stick to the list of Pals we shared earlier to avoid wasting time.
Another common mistake is carrying too much extra loot when you head out farming. Clear out your inventory of all unnecessary items before you leave your base, so you can carry 30+ stacks of bones before you have to stop and store them. Don’t forget to loot every corpse immediately after you kill a Pal - other Pals can wander over and despawn the corpse if you leave it for too long, and you’ll lose whatever drops it had.
Don’t try to farm high level bone-dropping Pals before you’re ready, either. Trying to take on Felbats at level 20 will just get you killed over and over, and you’ll end up wasting more time respawning and traveling back to the spot than you would farming lower level Pals that you can take out in one hit. It’s always better to farm a lower efficiency spot that you can clear safely than to risk dying repeatedly at a higher level spot.
Once you know what drops bones in Palworld, you can stop wasting time looting random crates or fighting the wrong Pals and start gathering all the bones you need for any craft or upgrade. I used to spend 2 hours a run farming bones when I first started playing, and switching to targeted farming at the spots I shared cut that time down to 30 minutes for the same amount of bones. Start with the Vixy spots in the starting area if you’re new, and move up to higher level spots as you progress, and you’ll never run out of bones when you need them again.
