I still remember the first time I walked up to the Xenolord arena at level 32, convinced my team of level 30 Pals could take it on. I lost four Pals in the first 45 seconds, and died before I could even get a third rocket shot off. It took me three more tries and a lot of trial and error to figure out what actually works, and I’m sharing all that info here so you don’t have to waste the same time I did. If you’re stuck staring at that boss fight fail screen over and over, learning how to beat Xenolord Palworld doesn’t require dozens of hours of grinding or perfect reflexes—you just need the right prep and knowledge of its weak points.
Pre-Fight Prep You Need to Beat Xenolord Palworld
You don’t need max level gear or rare Pals to win this fight, but you do need to show up with the basics covered. Skipping any of these steps will make the fight way harder than it has to be, and you’ll likely burn through resources you could have saved for other endgame content. The most important thing to remember is that Xenolord deals both fire and dark damage, so all your prep should prioritize defending against those two types first.
Use this quick checklist to make sure you’re ready before you walk through the arena gate:
- Player level 35+, all party Pals level 38+
- Full heat-resistant metal armor set with +10 fire defense enchants
- 20+ high-grade healing potions, 10+ fire resistance tonics
- One long-range weapon (rocket launcher or assault rifle) and one close-range melee weapon (fire sword)
- Fast travel point activated 100 meters from the boss arena entrance
Heat-resistant armor is non-negotiable for this fight. I tried wearing regular metal armor my first try, and Xenolord’s basic fire slash took 60% of my health in one hit. With the heat-resistant set, that same attack only takes 15% of your health, which gives you way more room to make mistakes. Stack at least 20 high-grade healing potions and 15 roasted berries too—don’t rely on natural regen to keep you alive, because Xenolord’s AOE attacks will chip away at your health constantly.
Best Pals to Bring to the Xenolord Fight
Xenolord is weak to water and ice type attacks, and it deals extra damage to grass, normal, and neutral type Pals. I used to bring a full team of ice Pals my first few tries, but they kept getting one-shot by Xenolord's dark attacks. Mixing one water, one ice, one support, and one tank Pal is the sweet spot I landed on, and it made the fight 10x easier.
Azurobe is the top water type pick for this fight. It has naturally high HP and defense, and its signature water cannon AOE attack deals 3x damage to Xenolord. You can also ride it to move faster around the arena, which makes dodging AOE attacks way simpler. For your ice pick, go with Cryolinx: it has fast attack speed, and its freeze ability can stun Xenolord for 3 full seconds every 20 seconds, giving you time to heal or revive a downed Pal.
Don't bring a pure healer Pal to this fight. Xenolord automatically targets the lowest-health, lowest-damage unit in your party first, so a pure healer will get one-shot within the first minute of the fight. Instead, bring a support Pal with secondary healing skills, like Lovander. It can heal you and your party for small amounts regularly, while also dealing dark damage that Xenolord is weak to. Fill your last slot with a high-HP tank Pal like Relaxaurus Lux to absorb extra damage if your other Pals go down.
Xenolord Attack Patterns You Need to Memorize
Most people lose this fight not because they’re underleveled, but because they don’t know what attacks are coming. Xenolord only has 4 main attacks, and all of them are easy to dodge once you know the telltale signs. You don’t need perfect reflexes to avoid most damage, you just need to pay attention to its movements.
The first attack is a basic front slash: it swipes its front claw at anyone within 5 meters in front of it, dealing moderate fire damage. You can dodge this easily by rolling to the side when you see it lift its claw. The second attack is a fire AOE blast: it rears back for 2 full seconds, then releases a 10-meter fire circle that deals heavy damage to anyone inside. As soon as you see it rear back, run at least 15 meters away or hide behind one of the large rocks in the arena—the rocks don’t break, so they’re perfect cover for this attack.
When Xenolord hits 50% health, it will summon 3 small fire imp Pals to attack you and your party. I used to waste 10 seconds killing the imps when they spawned, until I realized they disappear on their own after 10 seconds. Let your Pals handle them while you keep pouring damage into Xenolord, and you’ll cut the fight time down by a full minute. When it hits 10% health, it goes into rage mode: attacks are 2x faster, and damage is 1.5x higher, but its defense drops by 40%. This is when you unload all your heavy ammo and use all your Pals’ ultimate skills to finish it off fast.
Common Mistakes That Make the Xenolord Fight Harder
Even if you have all the right gear and Pals, small mistakes can make this fight way more frustrating than it needs to be. These are the most common mistakes I see new players make, and all of them are easy to avoid with a little planning.
One of the biggest mistakes is bringing too many low-level Pals just to fill your party. If a Pal is under level 38, it will get one-shot by almost all of Xenolord’s attacks, and you’ll waste precious time reviving it instead of attacking the boss. It’s better to bring 3 high-level Pals than 4 high-level and 2 low-level ones, because the low-level ones will just slow you down.
Another common mistake is wasting all your healing items early on. Don’t use a high-grade healing potion every time you take 10 damage—wait until your health is below 30% to use one, and use roasted berries for small heals in between. You’ll need those high-grade potions for the rage mode at the end of the fight, when Xenolord’s attacks deal way more damage. You can also use your Pal's ride ability to dodge attacks faster—riding Azurobe lets you move 2x faster on the ground, so you can get out of the AOE blast range way quicker than running on foot.
One of my dumbest early mistakes was forgetting to activate the fast travel point right outside the arena. I died once and had to run 12 minutes from the nearest fast travel point to get back, which was such a waste of time. Don’t skip that step, even if you’re confident you’ll win on the first try.
You don’t need to grind for 10 hours to get max level gear or the rarest Pals to beat this fight. With the right prep, Pals, and knowledge of its attack patterns, learning how to beat Xenolord Palworld can be done on your first or second try, even if you’re a new player. Once you take it down, you get rare crafting materials to make some of the best endgame gear in the game, so the effort is well worth it. If you still get stuck a few times, don’t get frustrated—just adjust your loadout, swap out any Pals that are dying too fast, and try again.
